Server-Side GTM is an additional server container running on your own subdomain (e.g. ss.yoursite.com). The website sends data to this server, which in turn forwards it to Google Analytics, Meta, Google Ads etc. — the server controls what leaves.
Three main reasons: 1) ad blockers don't see requests from your own domain — data is preserved; 2) you can clean and enrich data before sending (e.g. add product categories); 3) better privacy control — you decide what leaves to Google.
Yes, in most cases. Because requests go from your subdomain (not googletagmanager.com etc.), blockers don't separate them from third-party requests. Real data loss with Server-Side drops from 30–40% to 5–10%.
On Google Cloud Run, typical cost for a small-medium site is €10–30 per month. Larger stores may reach €50–100. Setup cost is included in the Premium package.
Yes, the subdomain is Server-Side's advantage. We set up ss.yoursite.com or analytics.yoursite.com for you. This requires adding a DNS record at your domain. We help arrange this together with your DNS provider.
Yes, this is the standard usage. The server container receives events from the site and forwards them to GA4, Meta CAPI, Google Ads, TikTok Pixel — all from one server-side point, with deduplication.
